How to enable the O4 Project editor?

The early BETA to preview where we are headed with OASIS in a browser is now ready. To give it a go, follow the instructions in the link below to define one or more users as “Full Access” users:

Some expectations setting:

First we definitely want the feedback. Years ago I had a user give me a long lecture on how he didn’t need OASIS and could do everything with a spreadsheet. Let’s just say they have been using OASIS for over a decade now. Yes OASIS has a lot of tech that resembles a lot of different tools (spread sheets, CRM, ERP, and others) but we pull the tech together to fit the singular business model for lighting sales. That requires the feedback as we are just IT folks that work with a lot of people in lighting sales.

Give us the feedback raw. I’ve been told that I should have/could have written the system one way or another. Most likely we have talked it through here in our design meetings and were forced to make a decision one way or another. With a small market the $$s are too small to do everything we want in the short term. But over time we tend to do most of what we want. But whatever your impression, we have been doing this for a while and we are looking for the “gist” of what is being presented.

By 2025 we view most users using OASIS entirely through a browser with some iOS/Droid applications for other operations. This simply must happen. Costs supporting nearly 500 on premise databases is costly and consumes over 70% of our support time. On the value side – ALL the cool new development technology available has shifted from desktop applications to web applications. Essentially the software industry has moved to the web.

COVID-19 has changed user expectations. Just a few months ago I was told by a customer that “no user will ever want to use a browser to edit a project in OASIS.” And that is one reason we only used part of our available resources to develop O4 browser technology. Why spend $1M+ on development if the user expectations are primarily a local server running OASIS? The COVID-19 pandemic has changed all that. New development will only be for O4.

(We do have some transitional technology you see in the “O4 Dashboard”. That technology will continue to grow to help users migrate to the browser in the long run. Once user adoption of the browser based technologies dominates then all the on premise technology will be retired.)

End user costs for Full Access are not final. Until the end of 2020, we will price "Full Access" user licenses as the same as "Sales Access". We are doing this primarily to get the feedback we need to make the software do what is needed by the industry. However, we already know "Full Access" will place a larger demand on our servers and force us to upgrade plans with our service providers. We will work with our customers during the transition in January 2021.
