This year, Ingen will begin transitioning OASIS customers from Sybase databases to PostgreSQL. This change is necessary due to upcoming changes from our third-party database vendor and is part of our long-term platform strategy. By 2027, all new database licenses will require PostgreSQL.
As part of your Maintenance & Support agreement, our team will assist with the conversion process. Throughout the year, we will proactively contact customers in specific situations to begin planning and scheduling conversions ahead of future licensing requirements.
What to Expect
The conversion process varies based on database size:
- Databases smaller than 250 GB can typically be converted during an overnight maintenance window.
- Larger databases will generally require a scheduled weekend conversion.
During the conversion, Ingen will require remote access to the database server. The server must also have temporary free disk space equal to approximately twice the size of the existing database. This additional space is only required during the conversion process and can be reclaimed afterward.
How to Prepare
To help ensure a smooth transition, we recommend completing the following steps:
- Contact your IT team and request the current size of your database. This information will help determine scheduling requirements and temporary storage needs.
- Confirm that remote access can be provided to the server during the conversion window.
- Confirm your OASIS database is running version W1177A1 or later.
If needed, have your IT team contact us for details on any preparation activities, such as server updates and PostgreSQL installation, that may be required prior to the conversion.
Self-Service Conversion Option
Some IT teams familiar with OASIS Database Tools and PostgreSQL can handle the conversion independently. This option allows your organization to perform the conversion on a schedule that best fits your operational needs, rather than coordinating around us. Ingen can provide the conversion procedures and supporting documentation.
